Glasgow Hawks 42 Melrose 19

The BT Cup semi-final match was preceded by a "Minutes Silence2 in memory of the Melrose Club Secretary, Stuart Henderson, who had died suddenly whilst in Dublin last weekend. On a fine afternoon Melrose had the advantage of the breeze in the first half, but Hawks were first on the scoreboard with a try by Wes Henry, converted by Mike Rainey, after 5 minutes. Scott Ruthven kicked a penalty at 19 minutes, but the Hawks lead was extended with a Mark Sitch try, converted by Rainey, at 26 minutes. Ruthven closed the half with a penalty at 36 minutes.

A magnificent break from the kick off saw Henry Lawson scoring a try 30 seconds into the second half, Ruthven converting, and Ruthven's third penalty a minute later gave Melrose the lead which they held until Neil McKenzie's try and Rainey's conversion, at 53 minutes. Ruthven's fourth penalty followed two minutes later to close the gap to two points. Sitch scored his second try at 59 minutes, at 65 minutes Ally Maclay burst through the centre for a try, and right at the end Richie McKnight scored Hawks sixth try, all being converted by Rainey.
