Melrose 24 Heriots 10

Kelly Brown and Jonny Weston, in the Scotland Sevens squad for the Hong Kong Sevens, were rested for this penultimate BT Premiership match. The weather was horrible with a strong wind blowing the length of the pitch throughout and heavy showers interspersed with bright sunshine. Playing with the elements in the first half Scott Ruthven missed a penalty at 9 minutes, but made amends eight minutes later to give Melrose the lead. Stuart Lang and Jonathan Rimmer were yellow carded for "handbags" at 36 minutes and immediately after, Wayne Mitchell burrowed over for a try converted by Ruthven.

Jamie Syme burrowed over for a try for Heriots 3 minutes into the second half, but at 49 minutes Andy McIntosh was yellow carded. One minute later, after good lead up work by Jamie Murray, Geoff Caldwell raced over for a try converted by Ruthven. At 62 minutes Tamas McVie finished off a rolling maul with a try. With Melrose pressing, at 75 minutes, Geoff Caldwell received the ball and danced over in the Policeman's Corner for his second try, converted by Ruthven.
