Andy McLean opened the scoring in this BT Cup Quarter Final match with a penalty at 7minutes, and, three minutes later he repeated the dose. Thereafter Melrose gained superiority and, at 19 minutes, Geoff Caldwell finished a fine move with a try. The forwards drove for the next try with Jonny Weston claiming the touch-down, at 32 minutes, Scott Ruthven converting.

Ten minutes into the second half Henry Lawson powered over for a try, converted by Ruthven. Melrose retained their superiority and Ruthven kept the scoreboard ticking over with three penalties, the last of which was with the last kick of the match.
