This BT Cup match was played on a bright, but bitterly cold afternoon on a Greenyards pitch which was in immaculate condition. Scott Ruthven kicked penalties from in front of the posts at 2 & 11 minutes and Steve O'Donnell replied with a similar award at 23 minutes. Play continued from end to end and, just on half time, Melrose broke down the stand side with Jonathan Rimmer ending the move with a try to the right of the posts, converted by Ruthven.

30 seconds into the second half Rory Watson scored a fine try in the Policeman's Corner, converted by O'Donnell. Following a passing movement across the face of the posts Euan Thomson scored a try in the left corner, at 46 minutes, Ruthven again converting. Ten minutes later Wayne Mitchell burrowed over from a scrum 5 for a try converted by Ruthven. Ruthven kicked two more penalties at 62 & 66 minutes, but in between these GHA were awarded a penalty try, converted by O'Donnell. The final quarter was remarkable, only, for the raft of replacements by both sides.
