Glasgow Hawks had the strong wind and the snow at their backs for the first half of this BT Premiership match. The scoring was opened early on with a try by Steve Gordon, but, despite the dominance occasioned by the elements Hawks could only manage three penalties from the boot of Mike Rainey for a 14 point interval lead.

Playing into the elements Hawks upped their performance, and, early in the second half Colin Shaw scored his first try. His second try came when Melrose were down to 14 men, Richard Higgins having been "sin-binned" for handling in a ruck. Hawks "bonus point" try came when Scott Forrest powered off the back of a scrum to score. Rainey converted two of the second half tries.
