Watsonians 54 Melrose 24

The spectators were hardly seated for this BT Premiership match before Torquil Mathewson jinked in at the right corner for the opening try. In the next five minutes Bernard Hennessy kicked two penalties , followed by Scott Ruthven kicking Melrose's first points with a penalty at ten minutes. Watsonians kept up the pressure over the next 20 minutes with Mathewson scoring his second try and Alan Nash and James Easton scoring tries all converted by Hennessy. Melrose then improved their play in the last ten minutes of the half with Henry Lawson and Jonny Weston scoring tries, converted by Ruthven.
Half time - Watsonians 32 Melrose 17.
After the break Neil Cochrane battled over for a try, converted by Hennessy, and Melrose responded with a Geoff Caldwell try, converted by Ruthven. Watsoninas kept up their momentum with tries by Colin Gregor and Darren Burns, Hennessy converting one and kicking his third penalty.
