Peebles 10 Melrose 18

This BT Premiership match was played in the cold with driving rain. Melrose opened the scoring after eight minutes with winger Geoff Caldwell crossing for a try. Nearing half time James White drove over for a try after a five metre scrum to level the scores.

Despite playing into the elements in the second half Peebles were playing the better rugby and, at 60 minutes, Mark Foster crossed for Peebles second try to give them the lead. Scott Ruthven kicked two penalties, the second being at 67 minutes, to put Melrose back in the lead. Peebles threw everything at Melrose, but the defence held tight. Then, at 79 minutes, scrum half Johhny Weston broke out of defence and slipped the ball to Geoff Caldwell who raced away for a try converted by Ruthven.
