Melrose 15 Glasgow Hawks 15

This BT Premiership match, played on a dull and cloudy afternoon, was as dour as the weather. Michael Rainey, for Hawks, kicked penalties at 10 & 19 minutes and Scott Ruthven replied with one penalty at 24 minutes. At 28 minutes Geoff Caldwell picked up the ball at half way and scythed through the Hawks defence, and, although he was tackled close to the line, his momentum carried him over for a try converted by Ruthven. Rainey kicked his third penalty to close the half.

A fine move by the Melrose threequarters put full back Henry Lawson in for a try at 42 minutes, but unfortunately the conversion was wide of the posts. Rainey kicked his fourth penalty at 51 minutes. Hawks then started to exert pressure, but the Melrose defence was equal to the task, even with Geoff Caldwell and Alec Clark being "sin-binned" at 72 & 74 minutes. Rainey, at 78 minutes, kicked his fifth penalty to tie the scores.
