Stirling County 22 Melrose 24

After an exchange of penalties by Brian Archibald and Scott Ruthven Stirling took the advantage of the wind and rain, with Ian Noble intercepting a Ruthven pass to run 50 metres to score a try converted by Archibald. Winning most of the ball at this stage of the match Stirling had the Melrose defense at full stretch and eventually Chris Harris found a way through to score a try to give the home team a 15 points to 3 lead. Toby Lynn managed to score a try for Melrose just before half time to make the interval score line a little more respectable.
Half time - Stirling County 15 Melrose 8.
Ruthven kicked three more penalties in a 13 minute spell in the second half to give Melrose the lead for the first time. Stirling, near the end of the match, laid siege to the Melrose line and eventually Shawn Renwick bullocked his way over at the base of the scrum for a try converted by Archibald. Deep into injury time Geoff Caldwell squeezed his way over for a try in the corner. Ruthven, keeping his cool, converted from far out on the touch-line to give Melrose the victory.
