Gary Law and Scott Ruthven exchanged penalties early on in this Premiership division 1 match before Callum Farmer scored the first of his tries, well converted by Law. Ruthven kicked two more penalties before half time.

Despite playing the second half with 14 men Hawick continued in the ascendency with Law kicking another penalty. John Houston then scored a try for the visitors, with Farmer scoring two more tries, one of which was converted by Law. Keith Hedley's try, converted by Law completed the Hawick scoring, but Ian Cornwall and Graeme Dodds ended the game by scoring tries for Melrose, both being converted by Ruthven.
