Kelso 12 Melrose 19

Border League points were at stake in this floodlit match on a fine evening, but with a damp pitch. The match, itself, was not a great advert for rugby with five yellow cards and 37 penalties. At 27 minutes & 30 minutes Adam Roxburgh & Matthew Foxcroft were "sin-binned" and the first try was scored by Wayne Mitchell, in the right corner, at 31 minutes, converted by Scott Ruthven and, at 34 minutes, Henry Lawson crossed for a try in the left corner to increase the Melrose lead. Kelso were back to 14 men just before the interval when David Hirst was shown yellow.
Half time - Kelso 0 Melrose 12.
Jonathan Rimmer was next in the "bin" at 51 minutes and, a minute later, Stewart Lowrie scored a try for Kelso converted by Robin Carruthers. Three minutes later Melrose were down to 13 men with James Murphy in the "bin" and, almost inevitably, within a minute, Kelso levelled the score with a Matthew Foxcroft try. Melrose celebrated the Rimmer's return with Andrew Skene scoring a try converted by Ruthven. Although this ended the scoring Kelso never let up and the Melrose defence was under considerable pressure in the last few minutes.
