The "Southern Reporter" Border League final was played, after a "Minutes Silence" for Melrose Secretary, Stuart Henderson, on a cool evening on a firm pitch with a breeze blowing down the pitch. Hawick had the early pressure, and, at 2 minutes Gavin Douglas crossed for a try which he, himself, converted, and, at 11 minutes, he kicked a penalty. Scott Ruthven put Melrose on the board with a penalty at 15 minutes, but Hawick countered when Colin Murray fielded a ball on the Melrose 10 metre line and broke through the centre for a try between the posts, converted by Douglas.

6 minutes into the second half Ruthven kicked his second penalty. Ian Elliot drove over for a try at 50 minutes, and, at 56 minutes Dan O'Connell repeated the medicine with a try, converted by Douglas. Matt Landles rumbled over for a try at 71 minutes to complete the scoring and ensure that Hawick won the trophy for the 47th time since 1901/02.
