One minute into this BT Premiership match Barry Edgar kicked his first penalty, with Scott Wight replying in kind eight minutes later. From the kick off Graeme Dodds broke the defence and passed to Karne Kaufana who cruised in for a try. Edgar's second penalty was kicked at 13 minutes and three minutes after this David Whiteford, playing his first game for Melrose after an early season leg break, crossed for a try. This was followed, four minutes later, by Jarrod Murphy's try converted by Wight. At this point Charles Robson was injured and had to leave the field causing re-organisation of the Melrose pack. At 24 minutes Ross West dived over for a try under the posts with Edgar converting. On the half hour Edgar kicked his third penaltyand three minutes from the interval he converted Carlo di Ciacca's try.

Edgar and Wight swapped penalties at 48 & 51 minutes. Melrose tried hard to gain victory, but not taking kicks at goal when only one point down summed up their efforts. Edgar kicked his fifth penalty with eight minutes to go.
