Boroughmuir 27 Melrose 20

Boroughmuir started this BT Cup match with a bang, Rory Couper racing in for his first try with only 47 seconds on the clock. Melrose opened their account when flanker Jamie Murray crossed for a try at 13 minutes. Then, with Melrose threatening the Boroughmuir line, Couper intercepted and scampered 90 metres for his second try, this converted by James Reilly. At 43 minutes Scott Wight, who had taken over the kicking duties from Scott Ruthven, slotted a penalty to end the first half scoring.

Early in the second half Calum Cusiter forced his way over in the corner for a try, but, at 50 minutes, Melrose reduced the Boroughmuir lead to two points with a splendid try by Karne Kaufana, converted by Wight. However, Couper, in the next 17 minutes, forced his way over in the corner for two more tries. Graeme Dodds completed the scoring with a try three minutes from time, but, try as they might, Melrose could not cross the line again to save the tie.
