Melrose 44 Aberdeen GSFP 26

Apart from an extremely cold North wind blowing the length of the pitch the conditions for this BT Premiership match were excellent. Scott Ruthven opened the scoring at 4 minutes with a penalty. After a fine handling move at 12 minutes good backing up by Alec Clark saw him score a try converted by Ruthven. Almost from the restart kick the ball broke to Geoff Calwell who scorched down the wing to score a try converted by Ruthven. Play was held up for five minutes following an injury to Clark, who, fortunately, was not as seriously injured as first thought. On 31 minutes Karne Kaufane intercepted an Aberdeen pass on the Melrose 10 metre line and passed to Caldwell who ran 60 metres for his second try, converted by Ruthven, and, then, just on the half time whistle Ruthven slotted his second penalty.
Half time - Melrose 27 Aberdeen GSFP 0.
The Melrose "bonus point try" was scored by Caldwell, once again streaking down the wing, Ruthven again converting at 47 minutes. At 56 minutes Mark McLean broke the Melrose defence for the first Aberdeen try, Matt Bebbington converting, and six minutes later John McKenzie crashed over for a try. Caldwell raced down the wing again a minute later for another try. At 69 minutes Mark Ozich scored a try in the Policeman's Corner, Bebbington converting. Five minutes later that man Caldwell popped up again and raced diagonally across the pitch to score his fifth try of the afternon in the opposite corner. Aberdeen gained their "bonus point try" two minutes from the end with a soft try through poor Melrose defence, Ewan Campbell scoring and Bebbington converting.
