Melrose 26 Hawick 10

This BT Premiership match was played on a bright, but cold afternoon providing Festive fare for the small, but larger than average, crowd. Keith Hedley opened the scoring after 22 minutes with a try off a short ball from a scrum in the policeman's Corner, Gary Law converting. Just before half time Karne Kaufana broke through the centre for a try converted by Scott Wight to make honours even at the break.
Half time - Melrose 7 Hawick 7.
Two minutes into the second half Graeme Dodds drove over for a try converted by Wight. At 65 minutes Law kicked a penalty to narrow the gap. After Hawick spurned a kick at goal from in front of the posts, taking the scrum instead, Kaufana, at 75 minutes, broke out of defence, passed to Dodds who released Mark Robertson who wrong footed his opponent and raced into the Town Corner for a well taken try at the other end. The Christmas bonus try for Melrose came just on no-side with Geoff Caldwell chasing a fly-hacked ball, outstripping his opposite number and controlling the bouncing ball well to pick up and score a try between the posts, converted by Wight.
Melrose 26 Hawick 10.
