Melrose 26 Currie 25

BT Premiership action returned to a Saturday, but on a cool, dull day with a strong cold wind blowing diagonally across the pitch. Playing into the wind Scott Ruthven opened the scoring with a penalty at 12 minutes. At 26 minutes Currie broke through the Melrose defence with Jonathan van der Schyss going over for a try between the posts, Michael Ker converting. Five minutes later Graeme Dodds completed a kick and chase for a try converted by Scott Wight. Ker finished the first half scoring with a penalty to level the scores.
Half time - Melrose 10 Currie 10.
Three minutes into the second half Wight kicked a penalty, and, at 56 minutes, following a lineout close to the Melrose line, Andy Sleight drove over for a try in the "Town Corner". Wight kicked his second penalty two minutes later. At 66 minutes David Officer raced in under the posts for a try converted by Ker to return the lead to Currie. Over the last five minutes the action became frenetic. Melrose regained the lead, by a single point, at 76 minutes, with Wayne Mitchell burrowing over, in his own inimitable fashion, for a try converted by Wight. From the kick off Melrose conceded a penalty which Ker duly dispatched to return the lead to Currie. Just on no-side it was the turn of Currie to transgress and Wight, from the Currie 10 metre line, slotted his third penalty to give the home team victory.
Melrose 26 Currie 25.
