Ellon 12 Melrose 34

Round 3 of the BT Cellnet Cup saw the entry of the Premier Clubs, all of whom were drawn away, with Melrose travelling to Ellon. The home team were "up for it" and certainly had no intention of being outplayed. Two minutes into the match Tom Hakila drove over for a try, but the home team fought back and two penalties by Mark Ryan, at 6 & 18 minutes, took them into the lead. At 33 minutes Jamie Murray restored the Melrose lead with a try, but two minutes later, and then, just prior to the break, Ryan kicked two more penalties to give Ellon the half time lead.

Two minutes into the second half Scott Aitken crossed for a try converted by Scott Ruthven. At 48 minutes Steven Sheil nipped over fro a try, Ruthven again converting and three minutes later Murray scored his second try. Halfway through the second half Jarrod Murphy scored a try to end the scoring.
