Heriots 53 Melrose 32

Played in dour conditions this BT Premiership match was exciting to the neutral observer. The match had hardly started before Jonathan White put Heriots in the lead with a try converted by Ander Monro and at 10 minutes Marc Teague added to the Melrose woes with a try, again converted by Monro. Scott Ruthven and Monro swapped penalties around the quarter hour mark. At 24 & 29 minutes Graeme Dodds crashed over for his two tries, both converted by Ruthven. Honours even, but not for long. At 35 minutes Rob Dewey scored a try converted by Monro, two minutes later Ruthven kicked his second penalty and just at the break James Thompson scored a try with Monro again converting.
Half time - Heriots 31 Melrose 20.
Neil Meikle scored a try for Heriots shortly after the break, followed by Teague's second try five minutes later. The next try was scored by Wayne Mitchell, in his typical burrowing fashion, at 58 minutes, but, three minutes later Alasdair Dickinson increased the Heriots lead with a try converted by Monro, and the Heriots scoring was completed by Monro converting Teague's "hat trick" try at 67 minutes. The final try of the afternoon was the Melrose "bonus point" try scored by Craig Sutherland with Ruthven converting.
Heriots 53 Melrose 32.
