Melrose 32 GHA 27

This BT Premiership match was played on a cool, but still, afternoon on a damp, but firm, pitch.GHA were first on the scoreboard on their first visit to the Melrose half breaking through the centre for Rory Watson to score a try after seven minutes. Three minutes later poor Melrose defence allowed Alan Bullock to complete a fine passing movement with a try. Graeme Dodds drove over for a try at 13 minutes, following a short penalty and, four minutes later, Wayne Mitchell did the same and his try resulted in the first conversion of the afternoon kicked by Scott Ruthven. After more poor Melrose tackling, at 27 minutes, Bulloch drove through the centre and passed to Andy Williams whose try was converted by Ian Kennedy. Ruthven and Martin Dun swapped penalties to complete the first half scoring.

Two minutes into the second half Watson scored his second, and the GHA "bonus point" try, after a kick and chase, converted by Dun. At 61 minutes Ruthven kicked a penalty and, six minutes later, Jonathan Bradburn who had come on from the bench at 50 minutes, drove over for a try converted by Ruthven. Four minutes later he found himself on the end of a fine handling movement for his second, and "bonus point", try, again converted by Ruthven. It was "nip and tuck" for the remaining ten minutes, but the Melrose held out for a five point victory.
