With a strong wind at their backs Biggar opened the scoring in this BT Premiership match with a Quentin Sanft penalty after four minutes. Soon after, following a fine handling movement, Stuart Harrison crossed for a try in the right corner, converted by Sanft, and then, within a minute of each other, and with Biggar down to 14 men, Sanft kicked two penalties to increase the home team lead. On the half hour, after a quickly taken tap penalty, Elliot McLaren scored a try, and, just before the break, Murray Thomson scored a try converted by Sanft.

Five minutes into the second half second row man, Taumei Hakila, playing his first game for Melrose, crashed over near the posts for a try converted by Scott Ruthven. At 52 minutes Ruthven kicked a penalty, but the Biggar lead was extended with a Sanft penalty at 60 minutes and a second try for McLaren at 71 minutes.
