Melrose 22 Ayr 17

On a cold, wet and miserable day at the Greenyards Ayr came seeking revenge for the Cup defeat of the week before. With seven minutes played Karne Kaufana went over in the car park corner for a well worked but unconverted try. Thirty minutes later Ayr were penalised for an off the ball incident which Scott Wight kicked to make the score 8 - 0. Two minutes later Ayr came back with a Damien Kelly try which Nick Levelle converted 8 - 7. Just before half time Ayr scored an unconverted try to make the half time score 8 - 12.

The second half got off to a good start with the forwards rumbling over the line with the try being awarded to Ritchie Higgins which Scott Wight converted to make the score 15 - 12. Three minutes later Jamie Murray (centre) broke through to score conversion by Scott Wight taking the score to 22 - 12. Ayr scored an unconverted try just before full time to make the final score 22 - 17.
