Melrose 38 Selkirk 3

The President, Committee and Players would like to wish our readers a "Happy New Year".
2006 started with a "Southern Reporter" Border League match played on an excellent surface on a lovely afternoon. The initial exchanges saw the sides testing each other and then, on 14 minutes, a line out maul was driven over in the Town Corner with Wayne Mitchell claiming the touch down and Scott Wight converting. Ten minutes later, from a ruck in the corner, the ball was spun wide for Karne Kaufana to score a try under the posts, Wight converting. At 28 minutes Ciaran Beattie kicked a penalty to put Selkirk on the scoresheet, but three minutes later Mitchell broke up the centre of the pitch from his own 10m line, off-loading to the backing-up Andy Thomson who scored between the posts, Wight converting.
Half time - Melrose 21 Selkirk 3.
Wight kicked a penalty seven minutes into the second half, and two minutes later the ball was spun wide across the face of the posts for Mark Robertson to jink in and dot the ball down behind the posts for the Melrose "bonus point" try, Wight kicking his fourth conversion. At 67 minutes, with Selkirk down to 14 men through injury, Ross Miller scored a pushover try, this time Jamie King converted.
Melrose 38 Selkirk 3.
