Hawick 13 Melrose 11

This BT Premiership match was played on a very heavy Mansfield Park pitch with a blustery wind blowing the length of the pitch. Hawick had the advantage of the wind in the first half and, with seven minutes played, Craig Neish kicked a penalty. At 25 minutes Blair Spalding was driven over for a try and, six minutes later, with Hawick down to 14 men, Graham Thomson scored a try from a tapped penalty move.

Bruce McNeil was driven over for a try at 60 minutes and, despite the Hawick forward domination, this ended the Hawick scoring. Scott Ruthven kicked two longrange penalties, with the wind, at 67 & 73 minutes. A Melrose breakout from their own 22 in injury time just failed to produce a result and allowed Hawick victory.
