Greenock Wanderers 6 Melrose 50

The third round of the BT Cup is the round in which the Premier Clubs enter, playing away from home. In the first minute of the match Art Devlin opened the scoring kicking a penalty to put Greenock into the lead. Five minutes later Wayne Mitchell crossed for a try and on the quarter hour Karne Kaufanu scored his try. Three minutes later Devlin kicked his second penalty to reduce the leeway. Cammy Murray (22 mins.), Dave Whiteford (28) & Mark Robertson (35) scored first half tries all converted by James King.

Eight minutes into the second half Mitchell powered his way over for his second try, converted by King. The home team continued to defend well and it was not until 70 minutes before Barry Watson scored a try converted by Scott Wight. Then, just before no-side Wight, himself, scored a try.
