Melrose 33 Heriots 15

That this BT Premiership match was played at all following two nights of sub-zero temperatures, and on a lovely, but cold afternoon, was a great credit to groundsman, Gordon Barkham, and both teams thanked him for his efforts. The match was only four minutes old when Mark Robertson squeezed over in the Church corner for a try converted by Scott Ruthven. Almost immediately Jonny Sim kicked a penalty to put Heriots on the scoresheet. Played ebbed backwards and forwards for the next half hour and then, just before the break, following a multi-phase passage of play, Robertson danced over for a try under the posts, converted by Ruthven.
Half time - Melrose 14 Heriots 3
One minute into the second half Geoff Caldwell raced over for a try in the Policeman's Corner, Ruthven again converting. Eight minutes later James Thomson scored a try beneath the posts, Sim converting. At 53 minutes a line out was taken quickly the ball passing to James King who jinked through several attempted tackles to score the "bonus point" try under the posts, converted by Ruthven. At 64 minutes, whilst down to 14 men, the Melrose pack set up a beautiful rolling maul which travelled at least 25 metres before Stuart Johnson burst through to score a try near the posts. The last play of the match saw Cameron Goodall intercept a Melrose pass on his own goal line and run the length of the pitch to score a try.
