Melrose 24 Aberdeen Grammar 9

On a fine afternoon for open rugby this BT Premiership match was more a game of lost opportunities. Within the first seven minutes Keith Oddie missed two fairly easy penalties and Melrose failed by inches on three occasions to score tries. After a fine break down the centre of the pitch the ball went left for Ross Miller to score a try, after ten minutes, in the Town Corner, Scott Ruthven converting. Oddie was successful with a penalty kick at 16 minutes and at 27 minutes Karne Kaufana bashed his way over to the right of the posts and scored a try under a heap of Aberdeen defenders, Ruthven again converting.
Half time - Melrose 14 Aberdeen GSFP 3.
Oddie kicked penalties at 46 & 49 minutes to put Aberdeen back in touch, but the game then became bogged down with only a Ruthven penalty at 57 minutes to trouble the scoreboard. Eventually, just on no-side, Geoff Caldwell, who had come on as a replacement for Dave Whiteford, birled over for a try converted by Ruthven.
