This BT Premiership match was played on a dry afternoon, but with a heavy pitch. Cameron Taylor scored the first try of the afternoon, converted by James Noonan, after five minutes. Scott Ruthven kicked a penalty on the quarter hour, but three minutes later, Taylor scored his second try, again converted by Noonan. Paul Burke crossed a try at 30 minutes, Noonan converting and three minutes later, Dave Whiteford reduced the leeway with a try converted by Scott Wight.
Half time - Ayr 21 Melrose 10.
Scoring in the second half was limited to a Ruthven penalty at 55 minutes and a penalty try for Ayr, converted by Noonan, at 75 minutes.
