Scott Ruthven opened the scoring in this BT Premiership match kicking a penalty after four minutes. Quentin Sanft levelled the score with a similar award six minutes later and, over the next five minutes, Ruthven kicked two more penalties. On the quarter hour Chad Slade scored a try, converted by Murray Thomson, to give Biggar the lead which was increased by Andrew Duncan's try at 21 minutes. At 26 minutes Ruthven kicked his fourth penalty and, two minutes later, Geoff Caldwell scored his first try, converted by Ruthven. Caldwells' second try came at 33 minutes and the first half scoring was completed, just at the break, by Drew Moore's try, converted by Sanft.

Two minutes into the second half Sanft returned the lead to Biggar by dropping a goal. Six minutes later a gap opened up in front of Ruthven who "ghosted" through to score a try which he, himself, converted. Slade's second try, at 52 minutes, earned Biggar a "bonus point" and Sanft's conversion gave them the lead again. Mark Robertson scored the Melrose "bonus point" try at 71 minutes and Caldwell ended the scoring in an entertaining game with his "hat-trick" try just on no-side.
