Melrose 17 Glasgow Hawks 47

Champions, Glasgow Hawks, were the first Premiership visitors to The Greenyards to Melrose on a fine day with an excellent pitch, a credit to the Groundsman. Five minutes into the match Iain Kennedy scored a try, converted by Mike Adamson. Prop forward, Nick Cox, was the net try scorer, at 22 minutes, and this was followed by three Adamson penalties at 28, 30 & 35 minutes.

Almost immediately after the interval Mark Robertson scored a try, converted by Scott Wight. Over the next ten minutes Hawks replied with tries by Neil McKenzie & Scott Forrest, both converted by Adamson. Half an hour into the half Geoff Caldwell scored a try, but almost immediately Adamson countered with a try of his own. With a couple of minutes remaining Robertson scored his second try. Hawks were not finished, however, for, just on no-side, Kennedy scored his second try, converted by Adamson, to give Hawks an emphatic victory.
