Grieg Laidlaw kicked two penalties before Scott Wight's first penalty put Melrose on the score-sheet. Clark Laidlaw dropped a goal and Grieg Laidlaw's third penalty stretched the home team lead. Wight reduced the deficit with his second penalty before the break.
Half time - Jed-Forest 12 Melrose 6.
Wayne Mitchell burrowed over for a try shortly after the restart and Wight's conversion gave Melrose the lead which they never relinquished. Wight followed this up by kicking his third penalty and a drop goal before Grieg Laidlaw reduced the leeway kicking two more penalties.
