Watsonians 51 Melrose 0

Potential spectators for this Scottish Hydro Electric "Super Cup", played under IRB Experimental Laws Variation, seem to have been chased away to do other things by the fine weather, such was the paltry size of the crowd. Andrew Skeen, formerly a Greenyards player, opened the scoring with a try after 17 minutes, Nick Harris, having battered his way through the Melrose defence before the ball was off-loaded to Skeen to win the points. Ian Dryburgh added a further five points three minutes later, but poor kicking prevented any further first half points.
Half time - Watsonians 10 Melrose 0.
Mike Ker's first successful kick of the match came in the first few minutes of the second half with a penalty. At 48 minutes Scott Stumbles nipped down the blind side for a try and, then, at 60 minutes, Ali Rowe picked up a wayward Melrose pass on the Watsonian "22" to race threequarters of the pitch to score the Watsonian "bonus point" try, Ker converting. Five minutes later Jeff Nicolson won the race for the touch down to put Watsonians further ahead. Ker converted Skeen's second try at 66 minutes before relinquishing the kicking duties. Within the final ten minutes Stumbles converted Gavin Brown's try before, finally, Skeen converted his own "hat trick" try.
Watsonians 51 Melrose 0.
