Congratulations to the Home team volunteers who cleared the pitch of casual water to allow this 4th Round Scottish Hydro Electric Cup match to proceed. With the strong wind at their backs RHC took advantage of a defensive early tackle, after two minutes, with Kevin Watters kicking the penalty. RHC kept pressing and, after a series of penalties against the visitors, Stuart Aitchison burrowed his way over the line for a try to increase his team's lead at 25 minutes. Four minutes later Callum Anderson crossed for a try in the corner, a move which was repeated at 37 minutes when Andrew Lawrie crossed for his first try. Directly from the resultant kick off Melrose attacked and Lawrie scored his second try between the posts giving Scott Wight a straightforward conversion.
Half time - Royal High Corstorphine 8 Melrose 17.
Three minutes into the second half Anderson scored his second try, Wight converting, and ten minutes later Wayne Mitchell scored a "trade mark" try from close range. And then the rains came down! Anderson scored his "hat trick" try on the half hour, Wight converting. Further Melrose tries were scored by Andrew Gillie (65 mins.), Ross Millar (67 mins.) and Jamie Murray (71 mins) with Wight converting all three.
