Selkirk 31 Melrose 27

This "Southern Reporter" Border League match, played on a fine, but cold afternoon, was definitely a "game of two halves". Kieran Cooney powered over, after eight minutes, for a try converted by Scott Wight. On the quarter hour mark Calum Anderson scored the second Melrose try, the attempted conversion bouncing back into play from the woodwork. Wight did, however, kick a penalty at 27 minutes, but the woodwork again thwarted him five minutes later when Jamie Murray scored his first try. Two minutes before this Scott Tomlinson had put Selkirk on the scoreboard with a try. Murray's second try, just at the interval, gave Melrose a "four try bonus point" and Wight's conversion, this time, was successful.
Half time - Selkirk 5 Melrose 27.
Taking advantage of the breeze and a deficiency in the Melrose front row, Cooney having retired injured, the Selkirk forwards took command. Two minutes into the second half Neil Darling crashed over for a try, David Cassidy converting, and four minutes later Craig Hunter scored a try. The Selkirk "four try bonus point" came at 58 minutes when Martin Murray "breenged" over for a try with Cassidy again converting. At 62 minutes Gavin Craig's try ended the scoring. Try as the might neither team was able to add to the "try fest".
Selkirk 31 Melrose 27.
