Gala 9 Melrose 22

Thanks to the Netherdale "electric blanket" this Boxing Day "friendly" was able to go ahead. Eight minutes into the match Andy McLean opened the scoring with a penalty. It only took Melrose a further three minutes to get on to the scoreboard when Calum Anderson crossed for a try. At 14 minutes Stuart Johnson scored his first try. McLean kicked his second penalty at 17 minutes, but the Melrose tally increased at 21 minutes when Wayne Mitchell was driven over the line by the Melrose pack to score a try converted by Scott Wight. McLean ended the first half scoring kicking his third penalty at 29 minutes.

The second half was a dour affair with the only score coming mid-way through the half when Johnson crossed for his second tr. Despite eventual wave after wave of attack by Gala they were unable to breach the Melrose defence to break the scoring drought.
