Melrose 12 Currie 15

This Premier 1 match was played on a dull and damp day with a cold wind blowing the length of a slippery pitch. It took 19 minutes, playing into the wind, before Melrose took the lead. Alec Jessop picked up a clever chip through by Craig Edwards, rounded Geoff Caldwell, and scored a try in the Town Corner. At 27 minutes Ally Warnock kicked a penalty, but two minutes later the Melrose lead increased when Jamie Murray raced down the wing and slipped a pass to Callum Anderson who crossed for a try in the Policeman's Corner, Edwards converting. The half finished with no further scoring, but with two Melrose players in the "sin bin".
Half time - Melrose 12 Currie 3.
Two minutes into the second half, following a period of unattractive "grinding" and rolling mauls against a short handed opposition, the ball was slipped to Chris Browne who slithered in to score a try in the Town Corner. Following a similar passage of play, at 49 minutes, Mark Cairns repeated the medicine in the Policeman's Corner, and this time Warnock was successful with the conversion. This ended the scoring in a match where all the tries were scored against the wind and which was one of the least attractive victories seen at The Greenyards for many a long day.
