Melrose 38 Aberdeen GSFP 16

Once again Premier 1 action was played out on a beautiful afternoon on a pitch in magnificent condition. Ben Spearritt opened the scoring with a penalty after 6 minutes, and 8 minutes later he converted the try scored by Mike McNaughton who, fly-hacking the ball up the stand side, won the race for the touchdown, giving the visitors an eight point lead after fifteen minutes play. At 21 minutes Scott Wight made a fine break for Jonny Bradburn to cross for a try to the right of the posts, Wight converting, and giving Melrose the lead four minutes later by kicking a penalty. However, Grammar retrieved the lead with a Spearritt penalty three minutes before the break.
Half time - Melrose 10 Aberdeen GSFP 11.
Craig Edwards danced over for a try, converted by Wight, three minutes into the second half. With an Aberdeen player in the "sin bin" Melrose increased their lead with tries by Stuart Johnson (47 mins.) and Andy Thomson (51 mins.), whose try secured the Melrose "bonus point", both tries being converted by Wight. With Grammar back to full strength Colin Phillips (55 mins) drove over for a try in the Policeman's Corner. At 69 minutes, following a passing movement across the pitch, Callum Anderson crossed for a try with Wight's magnificent touchline conversion ending the scoring.
