Melrose 23 Watsonians 17

This Premier 1 match started in cloudy, but warm conditions, on an excellent playing surface, with the sun appearing after half time. Three minutes into the match Scott Wigfht opened the scoring with a penalty, but Watsonians came straight back with Andrew Skene finishing off a drive up the centre with a try converted by Michael Ker. Ker's second penalty, at 21 minutes, increased the Watsonian lead, but Wight replied in kind four minutes later. At 30 minutes Richard Higgins received a "yellow card" and four mintes later his front row replacement, Fraser Murray, received a similar "award". The game now went to uncontested scrums, the second of which led to Jamie Murray going through under the posts for a try converted by Wight - and this whilst Melrose were down to 13 men.
Half time - Melrose 13 Watsonians 10.
Honours in the second half were even until Wight kicked his third penalty at 57 minutes. A superb interpassing movement down the stand side saw Wight cross for a try between the posts, he, himself, converting. Watsonians never gave up and, at 75 minutes, Skene inched in at the Church corner for a try converted by Ker to set up a grand finale, but there were no more scores.
