The first home match of this season's Premier 1 campaign was played on a beautifully warm afternoon on a Greenyards pitch which was a credit to Head Groundsman, Gordon Barkham, and his team. Craig Edwards opened the scoring for Melrose with a penalty at eight minutes and Ross Cook replied with a similar award for Boroughmuir three minutes later. At 28 minutes Melrose were awarded a penalty 10 metres out and a quick tap by Edwards saw him dive over for a try. Three minutes after that Rory Couper received the ball on the left wing and altering his line of attack crossed for a try under the posts, Cook converting to give Boroughmuir the lead. A further three minutes later Edwards chipped the ball through the defence for Jamie Murray to follow through and score a try between the posts, Edwards converting.
