Heriots 12 Melrose 14

The second of this season's Premier 1 matches was played in a constant downpour and on a soft pitch ensuring inevitable mistakes by both teams. Heriots had the initial pressure, but, following a breakout by Graeme Dodds, at 18 minutes, Melrose were awarded a penalty which Craig Edwards kicked to open the scoring. Edwards repeated the medicine two minutes later, but three minutes after that James Thomson opened the Heriots account by kicking his first penalty. Thomson's attempted clearance, at 34 minutes, was charged down with Matt de Frank inning the race for the touchdown and increasing the Melrose lead. In njury time at the break Thomson kicked his second penalty.
Half time - Heriots 6 Melrose 11.
Scoring in the second half was limited to penalties with Thomson kicking two, at 48 & 75 minutes, the second giving Heriots thelead for the first time. However, with the last kick of the match Scott Wight's penalty secured victory for Melrose.
