Jonnie Hope opened the scoring in this SHE Premier 1 match by kicking a penalty in the first minute. William Wallace was "sin binned" after five minutes for a late tackle, but this did not inhibit Melrose. Three minutes later John Dalziel picked up at number 8 from a scrum on the visitor's 22, dummied to Graeme Dodds, and sauntered over unopposed for a try beside the posts, converted by Scott Wight. At 12 & 19 minutes Hope kicked two penalties to give the visitors the lead. Six minutes short of the interval Melrose won a lineout 5 metres out and from the subsequent rolling maul Dodds spun off the side for a try converted by Wight.

Following broken play, at 53 minutes, Wight broke out and passed to Mark Robertson who crossed for a try,Wight adding the conversion points. Three minutes later, following a number 8 pick up, space was created and Robertson scored his second try and Wight his fourth conversion. At 71 minutes a Melrose scrum on their own 22 saw Graham Calder intercept the number 8 to scrum half pass and scamper over for a try between the posts with Hope converting. The Melrose riposte was immediate. From the kick off the Melrose forwards breenged up the far touch line and the ball was slipped to Alec Jessop who squeezed in at the Policeman's Corner for the last try of the day.
