This SHE Premier 1 match was played on a dull afternoon with a cool breeze blowing the length of the pitch. Melrose had the benefit of the breeze in the first half and, after 6 minutes, Mark Robertson broke up the left wing with the ball eventually coming to Callum Anderson who crossed for a try to the right of the posts, converted by Scott Wight. Wight and Mike Adamson both failed with penalty kicks before Adamson was successful at 20 minutes and Wight at 25 minutes. At 35 minutes, following a series of passes across the pitch Stuart Smith dived in for a try in the Town Corner.

At 41 & 43 minutes Wight and Adamson swapped penalties. 54 minutes into the match a rolling maul from a line out within the Hawks 22 saw Richard Higgins imitate the local rabbit population and burrow over for a try in the Town Corner. Three minutes later, following another rolling maul, this time starting between the halfway and Hawks 22, Bill Wallace mimicked Higgins' effort and burrowed over for a try; this time Wight's conversion was successful. On 62 minutes Stuart Low raced down the wing for a try in the Church Corner which Adamson converted with a fine kick from the touchline. At 75 minutes Wallace repeated his effort of 17 minutes earlier by successfully converting a 10 metre rolling maul into the Melrose "bonus point" try which Wight converted. But Hawks were not finished yet! After some ill-discipline by the Home team just before no-side Hawks set up a rolling maul from a penalty 10 metres from the Melrose goal line. Grant Strang managed to bullock his way over for the touch down to allow Adamson to again demonstrate his kicking prowess by converting from the touch line to earn Hawks a losing "bonus point" for finishing within seven points of the victors.
