Melrose 40 - Edinburgh Accies 6

Melrose welcomed newcomers Edinburgh Accies to The Greenyards for the first home match of the SHE Premier 1 season, and promptly handed them a lesson in creative back play. Four minutes into the match the Melrose back row broke out of their own 22 and, with slick interpassing, the ball ended up with Jamie Murray who scored a try between the posts, Scott Ruthven adding the conversion. On the quarter hour David Blair put Accies on the scoreboard kicking a penalty, but eight minutes later Murray crossed for his second try to increase the home lead.

Six minutes into the second half Wayne Mitchell burrowed over for a try, converted by Ruthven. Blair doubled the Accies score with his second penalty on the hour. Three minutes later Murray scored his "hat trick" and the Melrose "bonus point" with Ruthven again adding the points. And then the forwards took over the scoring! With five minutes of the match remaining John Dalziel scored a try, converted by Scott Wight and, at the death, Richard Higgins crashed over for his try converted by Wight.
