This BSPC Border League match was played under floodlights on a very wet and muddy Gytes pitch with dry, but cold overhead conditions. Donald Anderson (3 minutes) and Scott Wight (6 minutes) traded penalties before Callum Anderson scored the first try in the corner after 10 minutes, Wight converting. At 25 minutes Duncan McDonald dived on a loose ball to score a try for the Home team. Five minutes later Melrose spun the ball backwards and forwards across the face of the Peebles posts with Wight selling a dummy and off-loading to Stuart Johnson who dived over near the posts for a try converted by Wight. Just on the interval Wight kicked his second penalty.
Half time - Peebles 8 Melrose 20.
Ten minutes into the second half Peebles pressed relentlessly on the Melrose line. A line out was followed by a rolling maul off which Donald Sangster spun to score a try. A scrum close to the Peebles line at 56 minutes saw Graham Dodds pick up and dive over for a try converted by Wight. The scoring, but not the action, ended eight minutes later when Wight kicked into the right corner. The wicked bounce of the ball defeated the Peebles defence, but not Anderson who picked the ball up and scored his second and the "bonus point" try.
