Melrose 31 Heriots 24 (Cup Final)

A large and enthusiastic group of supporters welcomed Melrose on to the Murrayfield pitch on a splendid afternoon for this year's SHE Cup Final. Five minutes into the match the ball was slipped, in the centre of the field, to Jordan Macey who "skinned" the Heriots defence and raced into the right corner for a try converted by Scott Wight. Nine minutes later Heriots tried to smuggle the ball up their right touch line, but David Whiteford intercepted it on the Heriots 10 metre line and ran unopposed to score a try between the posts leaving Wight a straight-forward conversion. At 34 minutes the Melrose threequarters indulged in some fine interpassing down the West Stand side ending with Calum Anderson scoring a try in the right corner, Wight converting from the touchline. Just at the interval Melrose set up a rolling maul from a lineout 5 metres short of the Heriots line, and, in his trademark style, Wayne Mitchell burrowed over for a try, Wight's conversion ending the half.
Half time - Melrose 28 Heriots 0.
Seven minutes into the secondhalf Wight increased the Melrose lead by kicking a penalty. At 54 minutes Cameron Goddall opened the Heriots account by scoring a try in the left corner. Six minutes later a rolling maul from a lineout saw Innes Brown score a try converted by Graeme Wilson. With eight minutes to go Oliver Brown took a quick tap penalty close to the Melrose line and crashed over for a try. The final score came just on no-side. From a penalty near the Melrose line the ball was spun across the face of the posts, James Thomson finishing the move by scoring a try in the right corner for Wilson to convert.
