Melrose 16 Boroughmuir 0

This Round 6 SHE Cup match was played on a fine afternoon for running rugby between two previous winners of the Cup competition. Melrose, playing towards the Town opened the scoring with a Scott Wight penalty after three minutes. At 20 minutes Wight doubled the Melrose score with a well taken drop goal. Eight minutes later Jordan Macey kicked ahead from his own 22, down the stand touchline, caught up with the ball on the Boroughmuir 22 and flicked it in-field with his foot to save it going into touch. David Whiteford, backing up, continued the footwork before diving on the ball for a try in the Town Corner, leaving Wight with a difficult, but successful, conversion. Wight's second penalty came three minutes later to give Melrose a healthy and well deserved lead.
Half time - Melrose 16 Boroughmuir 0.
Although the second half was scoreless Boroughmuir did everything in their power to reduce their deficit, but the Melrose defence was superb with at least two try saving tackles and on two occasions holding the player up over the line preventing touchdown. At the other end, with Stuart Johnson and Graham Dodds involved in a handling move, Bill Wallace was adjudged to have knocked on in the process of grounding the ball. This was an excellent result for Melrose against a team which has averaged 30 points per match, so far, in winning the Premiership title.
