Melrose 42 Glasgow Hawks 8

Glasgow Hawks kicked off this Round 5 SHE Cup match with a strong wind at their backs, but it was the home side who took the initiative. One minute into the game David Whiteford completed a passing move with a try in the Town Corner, and, three minutes later, Jamie Murray increased the home team lead with a try; this time Scott Wight kicked the conversion. Iain Noble kicked a penalty at 21 minutes, but this was cancelled out by Wight's similar award three minutes later. At 31 minutes Richard Higgins received a pass on half way and "breenged" up to the 22 where he off-loaded to Alec Clark who, in turn, passed to Ross Miller who dived over for a try in the Town Corner. Two minutes later Wight made a great break, the ball passing again to Clark and Miller, but this time the no. 8 passed back to Wight who crossed for a try. The wind ensured that this was not to be the day for conversion kickers.
Half time - Melrose 25 Glasgow Hawks 3.
Wight increased the Melrose lead with a penalty three minutes into the second half. It was 21 minutes into the half before the next score. Miller picked up at the base of the scrum on his own 22, passing to scrum half Scott McCormick who ran to his opponents 22 before passing to Jordan Macey who scored the try close to the posts leaving Wight a straightforward conversion with the wind at his back. At 67 minutes Stevie Gordon made a break on his own 10 metre line and, following a series of outrageous dummies, scored a try near to the Policeman's Corner, but the wind again defeated the attempted conversion. With seven minutes to go John Dalziel received a pass from the base of the scrum and crashed over for a try which Scott Ruthven converted.
