This 4th Round SHE Cup match was played on a fine, but breezy afternoon on a firm pitch. It took Melrose 15 minutes before they scored their first try, Mitchell burrowing over in trademark fashion for a try converted by Scott Wight. Midway through the half Scott McCormick scored the Melrose second try again converted by Wight. Kilmarnock were not lying down, and, following an exquisite dummy Alan Spiers split the Melrose centres and crossed for a try converted by Paul Johnson. Johnson ended the first half scoring by kicking a penalty.

Following a half time "blast with both barrels" from coach Craig Chalmers Melrose took the game by the scruff of the neck and over the next forty minutes ran in eleven tries through Calum Anderson (3), Jordan Macey (3), John Dalziel (2), Kieran Cooney, Ross Ovens & Bill Wallace. Wight and Scott Ruthven each converted four of these tries.
