Melrose 17 Dundee HSFP 13

This SHE Premier 1 match of two halves was played in cold conditions with a strong wind blowing diagonally down the pitch. In the opening quarter of an hour, and playing into the wind, Melrose eschewed two kickable penalty attempts, opting instead for kicks to the Town Corner touchline. Despite the Melrose pressure Dundee, in only their second venture into the Melrose half, were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, scrum half Barry Jones claiming the three points. Four minutes later Stephan Dreyer was driven over in St. Mary's Corner for a try converted by Jones. At 31 minutes Mike Kerr added to the Melrose woes by converting a somewhat wobbly drop goal.

With the wind now at their backs, two minutes into the second half, Melrose kicked for position and, following a lineout in St. Mary's Corner, Kieran Cooney was driven over for a try. Five minutes later, following an identical situation in the Church Corner, Graham Innes was driven over for a try converted by Scott Wight. Melrose took the lead for the first time in the sixty first minute when Cooney, this time in the Church Corner, drove over for his second try. There was plenty more effort by both teams, but no more scoring. The lack of a bonus point meant that, with results elsewhere, Melrose failed to climb up off fourth place in the league.
