Hawick 30 Melrose 22

This week's SHE Premier 1 match was a "local derby" with all that that entails! Hawick drew first blood with a penalty by Craig Neish after three minutes, but Melrose responded with Wayne Mitchell burrowing over for a try converted by Scott Wight. After 16 minutes Callum Anderson raced in at the corner for an unconverted try. Ten minutes later Hawick prop Brad Turnbull crashed over for a try converted by Neish and three minutes before the interval Neish's conversion of Rory Hutton's try near the posts gave the lead back to Hawick. In the dying minutes of the half Wight and Neish traded penalties.
Half time - Hawick 20 Melrose 15.
With Melrose short-handed, Jamie Murray having been dispatched to the "sin bin" just before the break, Rory Scott started the second half dashing in for a try converted by Neish. At 60 minutes Mitchell repeated his earlier efforts with a try converted by Wight, but try as they might Melrose could not add to their score. It looked as if Melrose might achieve a "losing bonus point", but, right at the death, an apparent indiscretion by Alec Jessop, for which he was "sin binned", saw Neish increase the Hawick lead to eight points with his third penalty.
Hawick 30 Melrose 22.
